Animating Maria
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (November, 1990)
Author: Marion Chesney
Average review score:

Amusing and Entertaining
As a result of the outrageous antics of the incorrigible Miss Amy Tribble, the unlikely pair of Maria Kendell and the Duke of Berham settled for a marriage of convenience to suit their equally unromantic goals - for her, freedom from bullying parents, and for him, a marriageable wife to bear him an heir. Why then were the two otherwise sensible cohorts devising to disengage themselves from a practical engagement, and even more troubling was, why the other became so hurt when they discovered their fiancé/e's intent?

This volume of the School for Manners series is the most entertaining for its hilarious characters such as Maria's companion and vulgar parents or the Duke's unconventional mother. Amy and Effy, naturally, are funny as ever.

Maria escapes the harshness of her reality by reveling in dreams of adventure and romance until discovering that real life can be even more fantastic when an arrogant, self absorbed duke experiences agonizing heartache over an indifferent young lady of inferior class. The uptight Duke is rattled by shock, then guilt, condescension, pique, and finally passion by the unsuspecting, unlikely heroine. Though the ending is naturally predictable, the amusing characters and entertaining plot Chesney crafts is worth the read. This book is one of the best in the very good series.

Beacon Hill's Colonel: Robert Gould Shaw
Published in Hardcover by Carlton Press (December, 1986)
Author: Marion W. Smith
Average review score:

Digging for the facts
Marion Smith has a wealth of information here, but her organization is weak and she repeats herself. Is this a collection of individual articles? This book isn't for the casual reader; he/she needs patience and digging skills. As it's out of print, it's also very expensive (not Marion Smith's fault). Still, anyone interested in the Shaw family will find here, what with Shaws, Lowells, and other collaterals, a geneological history of New England, together with material on Robert Gould Shaw not found elsewhere.

sticker fun for Caillou fans
This book is based on an episode of the popular PBS series, the one in which Caillou's family goes to an amusement park. The story is a little longer than a kiddie book, and is suitable for preschool children or younger ones who've seen the episode. Pages are slick so kids can place the 24 reusable stickers.

Chaos or Creativity?
Published in Audio Cassette by Oral Tradition Archives (September, 1991)
Author: Marion Woodman
Average review score:

Chaos or Creativity?
This single cassette tape lives up to Woodman's usual standards. This is an interesting taping of a lecture concerning Jungian perspectives on the creative process, in our everyday life. This is not the best interview or lecture that I have heard from her, but it is a nice compliment to some of her other books, and recordings. I highly recommend looking into some of her other works first. Woodman is second only to Von-Franz in her approach to Jungian analysis. She focuses on bringing the feminine to consciousness in order to live as whole human beings who are not bound to their complexes. Her books are extraordinarily insightful and are just as much for men as they are for women. Other books and tapes by Woodman that I highly recommend are: Dancing in the Flames: The Dark Goddess in the Transformation of Consciousness -- Pregnant Virgin: A Process of Psychological Transformation (Studies in Jungian Psychology by Jungian Analysts) -- Leaving My Father's House : A Journey to Conscious Femininity -- The Art of Dreaming: A Creativity Toolbox for Dreamwork

Australian
This is very, very good. The story is set in Australia [taken from the back of the book] AN IDEAL HUSBAND and FATHER? What can a small Australian town of Bay Beach offer an ambitious city lawyer like Nick Daniels? Well, first there's Shanni McDonald - a gorgeous, vivacious woman Nick is instantly attracted to. Second, there's tiny, vulnerable Harry - a three-year-old child from the orphanage, desperately in need of love. Nick is wary of commitment, but Shanni and Harry have decided that Nick is the man for them. All the have to do is persuade him! --- belongs to the PARENTS WANTED - Families in the making series ************** The story introduces Nick out with a group of lawyer friends discussing what he would require in the way of a wife, ["Ha!"] his comment, should his career depend on one. "She would have to be Independent..... Tall and gorgeous....Trophy-wife gorgeous ......Rich......Kids? .... No way"
His friends now had their summary. "So...Gorgeous, Intelligent, Rich, Independent. Wanting no ties. Cold as ice? Something like you, in fact?"
Nick Daniels kept his emotions to himself. He didn't get involved. Not after what he'd been through.
[gulp] Shanni McDonald is a twenty-seven year old kindergarten director who still looked about sixteen and is waiting for a proposal from John.
Her Perfect Man ----- "Lives locally and never wants to move. Loves animals and kids. Family man. Loves the country. Has room to stable horses and house half a dozen kids."
John fits the list but.........and so the story begins... grin ... well worth reading and probably again, good addition to your library
